My First Apron Dress

I bought this fabric a few months ago and have been too afraid to cut into it. I've layed it out several times to see how I want it to look, and finally I decided to go for it! I couldn't be happier with the result :) I think this is my favorite dress I've made so far. I saw a little apron top using these fabrics and just KNEW I had to make a similar dress for Mia. Mia loves butterflies so I wanted to showcase the butterfly fabric by using as a thick border. I may add the pom pom trim to the apron later, but for now I'm happy with the way it looks without it. I also might add a fabric rosette to the chest band. I'll be sure to take pictures if I change anything. I didn't use a pattern, I just kind of figured things out for myself as I cut into it. A lot of the apron dresses I've seen out there have an apron that is too narrow for my liking, so I wanted to make sure I made Mia's a little wider. You can't tell from the pictures, but the straps tie in knots on the top of her shoulders. I will also be making a smaller version of this dress for Miss Hayden. I'm just trying to figure out how to change up the fabric order so it's not identical to her big sister's. Didn't this dress work out perfectly for Mia's 4 year portraits? I couldn't be happier.

Now the question is, do I create a tutorial for this dress??? Would love some feedback!

Well I just love it! So colorful and pretty! It suits Mia to a T! If you can figure out how to make one for big girls, it sure would make a cute pool/coverup dress!
